Turtle Release, Todos Santos, Baja, Mexico

During our stay in Cerritos, we met a lovely family from Vancouver with two boys who became great buddies with our girls. They suggested a visit to see the turtles being released in Todos Santos and we were happy to join them. The local turtle conservationists gather eggs from the beaches and keep them safe in a covered hatchery. Humans, dogs, seabirds, snakes and lizards are all predators of the turtle eggs and hatchlings. We saw Olive Ridleys and Leatherbacks which had hatched just that morning. We watched the sunset over the Pacific and then witnessed the tiny turtles scuttling across the sand and into the sea.
