Todos Santos, Baja, Mexico

After Heidi got over her flu bug, we left Cabo San Lucas and the tourist hub behind. We set up camp in Cerritos which is a popular beach an hour away. The consistent surf break makes it the perfect place for Mark to spend a few hours every day on his board. The flat beach and family-friendly atmosphere make it a great place for the girls to play.

The artist enclave of Todos Santos was a perfect day trip from Cerritos. We had spent three weeks here in a rented house when the girls were 5 yrs. old and 3 yrs. old. We went into town and noticed the changes wrought by the hurricane right away. Downed trees, washed out taco stands, and collapsed roofs were a testament to the power of that September storm. Our favourite tortilla shop had closed, but we found a new one with some local insider assistance. We toured the town and the iconic Hotel California from the Eagles’ classic hit. We left the many galleries and over-priced restaurants behind though, as they were catering to a distinctly different segment of the population. (Boomer tourism is big business!)
