Cerritos Beach, Baja, Mexico

Our plans to spend 2-3 days at Cerritos have been extended into two weeks. The swell is perfect for Mark to spend a few hours every day in the water and he sometimes hits the beach for both a morning and evening session. He is logging quite a few hours of exercise every day and loving all this time in the ocean!

Cerritos Surf Colony was hard-hit by September’s hurricane. Half the plants are dead and many of the palm trees are ready to topple, but the family-friendly beach remains and it is ideal for the girls. The campground is very rustic with no electricity, water, or much of anything else, but the pool is perfect for hours of play. We may only have showered once in two weeks, but the ocean washes most of the smell away anyways!

The girls have been putting their wetsuits to good use and logging many hours on their boogie boards. They love making new friends on the beach and we love the “long leash parenting” that allows them to play without being underfoot in the camper. It’s a win-win for all of us.

I snapped over 500 photos of sunsets, surfing, and the girls at play on the beach and in the waves during the past two weeks. We celebrated St. Patrick’s Day with green cupcakes shared with friends on the beach and watched almost every spectacular sunset during the past 13 days at Cerritos. It has certainly been time well spent.
