Atlin, BC

A last minute decision to head to Atlin, BC was one of our best so far. This tiny town of 300 inhabitants was built in the early 1900s and the charm of those early gold-rush days remains. We camped on the shores of Atlin Lake and took the boat out for a few fishing and glacier-viewing trips. As you can see from the photos on the boat, the wind off the lake was frosty and unmistakably glacial!

We celebrated Canada Day with the locals and watched the parade wind its way through town. Everyone loved the size of the community and friendly folks we met wherever we went. The girls befriended stray dogs and wanted to adopt them!

The Bald Eagle in the photo was affectionately named Eddie by the campground host. He was a regular on the telephone pole a few metres from our campsite and we heard him being harassed by the local seagulls at all hours of the day and night.
