No road trip would be complete without the requisite overnight stay at a Walmart parking lot! After taking the ferry from Port Angeles, WA to Victoria, BC, we trekked north to Nanaimo. Since the Rathtrevor Provincial Park was nearly full and the clock was approaching 9pm, we decided to do what many other campers do and spend the night at Walmart!
We loaded up on groceries and the like before tucking ourselves in for the night under the orange glow of security floodlights. It was no sunset over the Pacific, but I have to say it was pretty quiet and convenient, not to mention FREE!
When we woke in the morning, we lifted the shades and found that we were literally surrounded by other campers. We met many of these fellow travelers in McDonald's the next morning when we chatted over breakfast. The girls loved it! A Happy Meal for breakfast!
